What’s The Beef?

Angus Australia recently participated in four workshops across New Zealand, provided for beef breeders focused on growing the understanding of the role of genetics in their herd. As well as presentations by Angus Australia extension team members Jake Phillips and Nancy Crawshaw, attendees also heard from guest speakers on nutrition, commercial adoption of genotyping products and market trends and signals for New Zealand beef in the United States.

We know it’s an incredibly busy time of year for you all, with Christmas looming in the not-to-distant future. 

The AngusPRO members met for our AGM last week and it was valuable to have three key Angus Australia staff in attendance. CEO Scott Wright, company secretary Kathryn Duddy and communications manager Diana Wood came across the Tasman to talk through Angus Australia’s updated strategic plan and be a part of our discussions to ensure AngusPRO stay at the top of the beef industry here in NZ.

The fundamentals of TACE

The TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation (TACE) is the genetic evaluation program adopted by Angus Australia for Angus and Angus influenced beef cattle.

The TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation uses Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP) technology to produce Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) of recorded cattle for a range of important production traits (e.g. weight, carcase, fertility).
