AngusPRO Education Module – 13 October

13 October 2022

It’s been a big few weeks with some incredible sale results coming through – just shy of full clearances across the board. Highlights were Rissington averaging $7,324 with 171 bulls and Twin Oaks averaging $6,820 with 49 bulls. Komako, Kakahu, Stokman and Te Mania also all had strong averages over $4,500.

Congratulations to all the members who ran a sale and to everyone who took home the latest genetics.

As you’ll ALL know, on Tuesday the Government unveiled its world-first plan to price agricultural emissions from 2025. It is designed to ensure they decline by 10 per cent by 2030, and 24-47 per cent by 2050.

The plan, which is out for consultation, was largely based on a proposal put forth by an industry partnership He Waka Eke Noa, with differences on who sets the pollution price and approaches to sequestration or offsetting through things like on-farm vegetation.

Without getting political on the matter, we welcomed the news from our governing body Angus Australia, that they are collaborating in low methane beef R&D. The $15 million research project will examine the genetics of methane emissions in beef cattle, and we can only assume that selection tools are coming in the near future for AngusPRO cattle. More info on this in the main email.
